Homework will consist mainly of reading and practicing trick words. On occasion we will send home a math game or science/social studies activity. More information regarding homework will be provided at Curriculum Night (date to be determined).
Below are some helpful homework tips.
- Children crave structure and schedules! Try to find a specific time each night dedicated to homework. Maybe it is right after dinner, or maybe right after an afternoon snack when they get home. Having a set time each night will help your child stay on task and focused.
- Please help your child with each assignment. Your child may need help reading the directions or reading the questions on the worksheet.
- Your child may need help sounding out words for writing assignments. “Sounding out words” means that it is OK if the word is not spelled correctly! Children should be writing down sounds that they hear. This process helps the child gain independence with writing. As the year continues we will be learning a lot of “trick” words. Your child should be writing “trick” words with the correct spelling. A list of new trick words will be sent home each week. In Kindergarten your child learned 29 words that he/she should be able to read/write.
- Please feel free to write me a note on the homework if you have any questions/concerns.
- Reading Logs: Please write down the title of any book, magazine, poem, etc. that your child reads each night. This reading time can include your child reading to you, or you reading to your child. It also can include Raz-Kids online reading.
Thank you for your support with homework!
